It can be difficult to feel the heartbeat in your neighborhood. To learn more about those we pass each day. Wrapped up in the business of each day it takes a lot to get us to stop and consider our lives, to consider our futures, and consider the fact that no one is promised tomorrow. Can any man know when his last day on this earth will be?
These thoughts are exactly what we asked our community to consider as they participated in the Futures Project. We asked a simple question, "What are you doing tomorrow?" Then we asked something a little more difficult, "What would you do today, if there were no tomorrow?"

These are the questions we asked New Yorkers in Union Square during the Futures Project. The answer may seem simple to you, or obvious. But sadly, for many people, there is a silent fear associated with the future. Fears of the unknown, failure, loneliness, regret, failing health and fleeting joy.
The goal of the Futures Project was to open the lines of dialogue. To understand the lives of those around us and offer words of peace and hope where there might be fear or neglect. Answers were collected by a group of 30 volunteers and were used as part of an art exhibit that analyzes our community’s future. The exhibit also included 20 portraits from four contributing photographers.
